If you're shopping for a premium car without the new-car price tag, Precision Certified is the Acura program to know. It pairs a 182-point inspection with coverage that's spelled out clearly,1,2 plus a 7-day exchange policy in case the car isn't the right fit.3
Buying a car in retirement often comes with a simple wish: no surprises. Precision Certified answers that with published rules. To qualify, a car has to be no more than 6 years past its original in-service date, show no more than 80,000 miles when delivered and pass a 182-point inspection done by an Acura Certified Technician.
Coverage has clear rules, too, so read them closely. The powertrain term is counted from the original in-service date, so a younger Acura brings more of it along. Roadside Assistance, trip interruption expense reimbursement, rental reimbursement and concierge service come with Precision Certified during its non-powertrain coverage period, each with its own conditions.5,6 That help matters when a tire goes flat on County Road 466 in July. And in a Central Florida summer, it's worth knowing that air conditioning is among the listed parts under non-powertrain coverage.2
One naming detail: Acura also has a Precision Used tier, with different limits and much shorter coverage. Make sure the car you're looking at is in the tier you expect.
Acura lays out what a car must meet and what comes along with it. Here's how that translates for a buyer who wants the details up front.
An exchange means choosing another Precision Certified vehicle in our inventory. It isn't a return, and the car has to come back in the same condition.3

Precision Certified vehicles can be leased as well as bought. Precision Used vehicles can't, so check the tier.
Precision Certified includes two kinds of coverage with different start points. Non-powertrain coverage picks up where the 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty leaves off and lasts 2 years or until the odometer reaches 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. If that warranty has already ended, the 2 years begin on the date of sale.2
Powertrain coverage is counted differently: 7 years from the original in-service date or 100,000 total odometer miles, whichever occurs first.1 A car that's 5 years old has about 2 years of powertrain term remaining, mileage permitting, and those limits don't reset at purchase. Both kinds of coverage apply to listed components rather than the whole car. On the powertrain side, that means engine, transmission and drive-system parts. Non-powertrain coverage adds listed parts like the fuel system, suspension, steering, air conditioning and electrical components. Maintenance and wear items, the emission system, body, interior, glass and wheels are left out.1,2 In a private-party sale, the balance of both can pass to the next owner through Acura Care Client Services.
Counted from the original in-service date
Shown for a car bought while its New Vehicle Limited Warranty is still running. Otherwise, the 2 non-powertrain years begin on the date of sale. The bars show years, but mileage counts, too: whichever limit arrives first ends that coverage, which can happen sooner on a car with a lot of miles.
