Acura vs BMW: Which Luxury Brand Is Right for You?

Both brands sell premium cars and SUVs, yet their lineups differ sharply. On the Acura side, the 2026 range covers four Acura models, a sport compact and three SUVs, while the BMW badge appears on SUVs, sedans, coupes, convertibles, i models and an extensive M family.

This Jenkins Acura guide covers five topics: which models each brand offers, how Type S compares with BMW M, what driver assistance comes standard, how new-vehicle coverage works and what each certified pre-owned program includes. Each figure comes from the automaker's own published material.

Acura and BMW Lineups Compared
V

Acura sells four 2026 models: the Acura Integra premium sport compact, the Acura ADX premium compact SUV, the Acura RDX premium sport crossover and the Acura MDX premium performance SUV. The Integra and MDX each add a Type S version at the top of the range, giving drivers a performance pick in a car or an SUV.

BMW's U.S. lineup is much wider. Its SUVs run from the X1 to the X7 and XM, sedans and gran coupes climb from the 2 Series to the 7 Series, and coupes, convertibles and the M5 Touring round out the range. BMW i models include the new iX3 and i3 Sedan alongside the i5 and i7.

  • Acura: Integra sport compact plus ADX, RDX and MDX SUVs
  • Acura Type S: Integra Type S and MDX Type S Advance
  • BMW SUVs include X1, X2, X3, X5, X6, X7 and XM
  • BMW 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 Series sedans and gran coupes

Type S and BMW M Performance
V

Two Acura models carry the Type S badge. In the 2026 Acura Integra Type S, a 320-hp 2.0L VTEC Turbo is matched exclusively to a 6-speed manual, with a helical limited-slip differential. Its SUV counterpart, the MDX Type S Advance, turns to a 3.0L Turbo V-6 producing 355 hp, with 354 lb-ft sent through rear-biased SH-AWD.

At BMW, performance is a full sub-brand. The M lineup covers the M2, M3, M4, M5, M5 Touring, X5 M, X6 M and XM, plus additional M models such as the X3 M50, X7 M60i and i5 M60. Two focused Type S models versus a broad M family sums up the contrast.

  • Acura Integra Type S: three equal-diameter outlets, Active Exhaust Valve
  • Brembo monobloc front calipers on the MDX Type S Advance
  • 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen system in the MDX Type S Advance
  • BMW M SUVs: X5 M, X6 M and XM

The Driving Assistance Professional package adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go on the X2, and Distance Control with Steering Assist and Lane Change Assistant on the X7.

  • Integra, ADX, RDX and MDX each carry AcuraWatch
