Snowbird Guide: Seasonal Acura Service & Storage in Ocala

If your Acura stays parked in Marion County while you spend the warm months up north, how you put it away decides how it wakes up. This guide follows Acura's own checklist for storage longer than one month, in order: before you leave, while the car sits, and when you get back to Ocala.

Jenkins Acura can handle the oil change before you leave and the inspection when you return. Schedule service a week or two ahead of your travel date so the visit does not land in the middle of packing.

Before You Head North: Preparing Your Acura
V

Acura starts its storage checklist with fuel and fluids. Fill the tank with the gasoline your owner's manual specifies, replace the engine oil and filter, and replace the coolant if it needs it. Then wash and dry the exterior and repair any paint chips before the car settles in for the season.

Inside, dry the interior and carpets completely before the doors close for months. Block the rear wheels, cover the exhaust and intake gaps so critters cannot move in, prop each wiper arm on a folded towel, and wipe silicone lubricant onto the door and tailgate seals. If you plan to store the car for more than six months, Acura asks you to consult an Acura dealer before you put it away.

  • Full tank of the gasoline your owner's manual specifies
  • Fresh engine oil and filter
  • Coolant replaced if needed
  • Paint chips repaired, interior and carpets dried
  • Exhaust and intake gaps covered against critters
  • Storing over six months: consult an Acura dealer first

While Your Acura Sits: Brakes, Tires and Covers
V

For long storage, Acura says to leave the parking brake off and keep an automatic transmission in Park, with the rear wheels blocked. Choose a breathable cover such as cotton, never plastic. Leaving the windows slightly open is fine only when the car sits in a temperate, ventilated garage.

Tires need a plan once storage runs past a month. Acura recommends raising the car on jack stands or blocks so the tires do not develop flat spots. If a neighbor or relative in Ocala can help, Acura also suggests running the engine once a month until it reaches full operating temperature. Do that only with the car outside: Acura's owner's manual warns that an enclosed garage can quickly fill with carbon monoxide.

  • Parking brake off, automatic transmission in Park
  • Breathable cotton cover, never plastic
  • Windows cracked only in a temperate, ventilated garage
  • Jack stands or blocks for storage past one month
  • Monthly run to full temperature, outdoors only

AcuraLink and the 12-Volt Battery Question
V

Acura's storage article says to disconnect the 12-volt battery cable. On models with AcuraLink Connected Services and an active Remote trial or subscription, features such as remote start, remote lock and unlock, Find My Car, security alarm alerts and the stolen vehicle locator need a connected battery. If your Acura has them, whether to disconnect is your call, depending on how much you want to keep tabs on the car from up north.

If the battery stays connected, or needs a charge before you reconnect it, the charger matters. The MDX owner's manual says AGM batteries need a compatible charger because the wrong equipment can damage them, and it advises checking battery condition monthly. Acura does not name a specific maintainer, so ask the Jenkins Acura service team which charger suits your battery.

  • Acura storage guidance: disconnect the 12-volt battery cable
  • AcuraLink Remote: remote start, lock and unlock, Find My Car
  • AGM batteries need a compatible charger
  • 2026 MDX: 36-month Security and Remote trials
  • 2026 ADX: complimentary Remote trial

Coming Back to Ocala: Waking Your Acura Up

When you get back, follow Acura's order. Charge the 12-volt battery and reconnect it, check each fluid level and look underneath for leaks, and inflate the tires before you lower the car off its stands. Then start the engine and watch the instrument panel for warning lights.

Press the brake pedal before you pull out and make sure it feels normal, then book the general dealer inspection Acura recommends. A quick check for open recalls is worth the minute too, since a campaign can be announced while the car is parked.

  • Charge, then reconnect the 12-volt battery
  • Check fluids and look for leaks
  • Inflate tires before lowering from stands
  • Watch for warning lights at startup
  • Confirm normal brake-pedal feel
  • Book a general dealer inspection

Acura's Maintenance Minder guidance calls for an oil change every year if no Maintenance Minder message appears within 12 months, and new brake fluid every 3 years if no message appears within 36 months. A 2025 or newer Acura that is still in its first year and under 12,000 miles may also be due for the visit the Acura Maintenance Program covers at participating dealers.

If the timing is tight around travel, Jenkins Acura lists home or office pick-up and delivery, courtesy loaners and a courtesy shuttle among its amenities; each depends on availability, so mention your departure date when you book. The store's quick service page describes a multi-point inspection with an electronic report and video you can approve or decline from your phone.

  • Yearly oil change if no Maintenance Minder message in 12 months
  • Brake fluid every 3 years if no message in 36 months
  • Home or office pick-up and delivery listed; ask when booking
  • Courtesy loaners and shuttle listed; ask about availability
